October has arrived and with it we welcome two birthstones for this month, Opal and Tourmaline. Both stones are special: Tourmaline comes in many different colors and Opals are unique because each one has a one of a kind color combination.
The Opal symbolizes faithfulness and confidence. The word Opal in latin means "precious jewel" and necklaces with this stone were worn to repel evil and to protect eyesight. There are different kinds of opals, one of the most famous and coveted is the Australian Opal, which is multicolored with small shimmering flecks of light. Then there are the Fire Opals which are more translucent and display a bluish internal sheen.

Tourmaline is thought to be helpful to artists and those in creative fields. The name comes from the Sinhalese word toramalli, meaning “stone with mixed colors.” Tourmaline is soothing, calming, it promotes meditation, spirituality, wisdom and mysticism. Pink tourmaline embodies love and is associated with compassion and gentleness. Green tourmaline promotes courage, strength and stamina.
