Halloween is not just for kids! I still love choosing a costume and dressing up! Halloween is a pretty low-stress holiday, and as a busier-than-ever-mompreneur, this means more fun for my family. Halloween needs minimal planning, or advanced commitment. You just show up, dress up and gorge yourself on piles of candy.
It’s not just about the pumpkins and spooks though…
Halloween can be traced back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, a pagan religious holiday, where people wore elaborate costumes, and lit bonfires, to ward off ghosts. Samhain was celebrated on October 31st, to welcome the harvest and “the dark half of the year”. According to the History Channel, “Celebrants believed that the barriers between the physical world and the spirit world break down during Samhain, allowing more interaction between humans and denizens of the Otherworld.”
Eventually, October 31st was named All Hallows Eve, and later became known as Halloween. As with most holidays, Halloween has evolved from its original meaning, into a day of festivities, costumes, carving jack-o-lanterns and eating yummy treats!
Feeling spooked? Break out the Talisman jewelry…
As a jewelry designer, and a spiritual person, I feel a strong connection between Halloween, and Talisman jewelry. In the literal definition, a Talisman is an object held to act as a charm, to avert evil, bring good fortune, and to heal and protect. Bring it on witches and goblins!
I’m pretty sure if I was alive to celebrate the festival of Samhain, I’d show up in some lavish costume, accessorized with a piece from my Talisman Collection, or even another gemstone with protective properties…
Tanzanite is a good stone to have near you in situations that require a calming and soothing presence. Like when those ghosts show up at your front door, demanding candy!
Opal will protect you from negative energies and unwanted attention. Some say opals make you unnoticeable to others, when called upon to do so. The power to be invisible? Yes please.
Emeralds are powerful conduit crystals. Many believe that emeralds amplify the universal force and protect us from undesirable elements. Wearing my favorite emerald ring right now, just in case!
Diamonds are known as the stone of invincibility, and for their ability to bring strength, courage, and fearlessness. Besides being a “girl’s best friend,” diamonds are the best protective stones in existence. Say no more!
It makes sense that even though I feel like a child on Halloween, I also feel spiritually connected to the past. My jewelry reflects this same sensitivity, with a lot of thought and meaning infused into each piece. It’s not enough just to make it pretty, even though that’s important too. Each piece is rooted in purpose and meaning, be it sentimental or spiritual.
Do you believe jewelry or other objects have protective properties? I’d love for you to jump in on this conversation and share your thoughts. Meanwhile, stay safe this season and if you’re a believer (or even if you’re not) shop my Talisman Collection today!
